Design : Building Contractor

This high-end contractor sought to have an attractive site, but ease of maintenance and expandability were important too.

The information on over 80 completed projects is delivered from a database, using a CCK framework which makes it easy to

change all the listings or to modify the behavior of a specific category.  Notice that each category has different descriptors.

Design : Solar Water Treatment

The Hydra was a solar powered water treatment system. Solar was used to power the pumps and excess power was used to split water into hydrogen for fuel and oxygen for medical and other uses.

So we designed the water background and the sunny colors, which made the client happy.

What We Do

We specialize not just in "design" of web pages or visual presentation schemes, but in Information Architectures (IA).  We see a web site not just as a "brochure", but as the hub of your company's interaction with the rest of the World.

One basic example of IA is the comparison between a standard static HTML web site (non) architecture, and using a Content Management System (CMS), a defining feature of which is the use of a database as the repository for content.  This allows the CMS script to assemble each "page" on demand.   This has many benefits, and delivers almost unlimited possibilities to the web developer.  Some examples:

Design : Non-Profit

The GEAR Foundation employs about 20 special needs kids through a thrift store in Franklin, TN.

Design : Organic Farming Group

This non-profit's site needed a reboot.

They wanted something simple, and that they could maintain with novice or beginner volunteers.   The site includes a document management/download function, and an event calendar.

In late 2011, we installed a fairly elaborate Online Registration system for the 2012 Annual Conference.  The system allows payment by PayPal or check, including groups of members/non-members/children, with earlybird rates, new or renewal memberships, and donations.

Design : Law Firm

This small law firm wanted something simple, and that they could maintain.   The site included a document management/download function, and a module for collecting and displaying testimonials, but the partners wanted to start simply.

Design to Functional Site

CMG had been left high and dry by a "designer" who had left them with a Photoshopped mockup of a site- all static JPGs and no functionality.  We split up the design, and applied it to a modern Joomla template:

Claremont Management Group Site

Now, the staff can easily edit the site using the web based Joomla interface.

A Joomla Makeover

Here is a website makeover we did using Joomla, way back in 2007.

The client was the Vegetarian Society of Richmond, Virginia .

The President's team wanted more control over the site, and to not have to ask the webmaster for every little change.

They also liked the idea that multiple people could submit content to the site, subject to approval.

  • The color scheme was too dark - So we chose a more colorful template from hundreds.
  • There was no interactivity - Now, members can login, submit articles or events, and see profiles of other members.
  • The staff didn't have web design software - Joomla includes a web based editor that's instantly familiar, and available to anyone with a web browser.

"As a nonprofit organization with a very limited budget, we had struggled to maintain a presence on the web. Ken delivered a solution in short order at low cost, and provided the expertise to get us up and running. The Joomla technology gives us a highly flexible structure for presenting our organization's message. It has all of the functionality we need now, plus room to grow. The use of templates allows us to change the 'look and feel' of the website quickly, and to add new modules with additional features when we need them. Best of all, the website can be easily maintained by one or more individuals with minimal technical skills. Updating content or format is quick and easy, freeing us to focus on our organization's mission."

--David Sumner, Vegetarian Society of Richmond

After upgrading to a professional looking, powerful website, powered by Joomla and designed by Ken and webmaster David, our membership increased significantly. People are impressed by the website and are more likely to invest money in the organization. Also, they like the convenience of using Paypal for payments.

--Lois Angeletti, President Vegetarian Society of Richmond

Design: Co-op Buying Club

The Co-op wanted something fun that combined food with community...

The top banner was produced by a local graphics firm...a nice collaboration.

Design: Musician

Tammi wanted something "hard" but with a feminine touch, and to be able to post music samples and her calendar.

“I have been hosting my web site with Ken since he pointed out that the ownership of my old platform doesn’t match my views, some years ago. The service has been very reliable, and the design and logo he and his designer created for me was ideal for my site. Ken showed me how to manage my own email list and calendar, and the server just keeps running, so sometimes it’s several months between support requests, but he always answers when I call, and provides quick, cost-efficient solutions.” Tammi Kamin, Richmond, VA

Design: Green Highways

This draft was for an information and registration site for a technical conference on "greener" road building.  I selected the stock photos, and put them in a rotator, which posed several punny questions related to the Conference.  Construction types can be very serious, you know...

Design: Architectural

This firm wanted something that evoked beach houses, and incorporated their colors.
